You can cancel your order for a full refund within 12 hours of placing it. Email hello@takumicleavers.com with your order number.
If you’d like a different product, cancel within 12 hours and place a new order. After 12 hours, orders can’t be changed or cancelled.

Shipping
How long will my order take to arrive?
Delivery usually takes 2-3 weeks from the date you place your order, and shipping is always free. You’ll receive a tracking email once your order ships.
If it hasn’t arrived within 4 weeks, email hello@takumicleavers.com with your order number and we’ll look into it.
Why does delivery take 2-3 weeks?
Takumi Cleavers recently came under new ownership, and we’re taking the time to set things up properly. Our blades are produced in small batches rather than stockpiled, so some orders are prepared after they’re placed. We’d rather be upfront about delivery times than promise dates we can’t meet.
Every order is tracked all the way to your door, and as we build up our inventory, we expect delivery to get faster in the coming months. Thank you for your patience.
Where do your cleavers ship from?
We serve customers in 4 countries across 2 continents. Right now, all orders ship from our international fulfilment centre and are tracked all the way to your door. We’ll be building up local stock so delivery will get faster over the coming months.
Do you offer gift wrapping?
We don’t offer gift wrapping at the moment. However, each knife arrives in its own box, ready to give.
Will my bundle ship together?
To get your knives to you as quickly as possible, we send each item as soon as it’s ready rather than holding the whole order back. That means you can start using your first knife sooner. In most cases, items arrive within a few days of each other, and you’ll get tracking details for each shipment.
Products
What steel are your cleavers made from?
We use three types of steel:
- High-carbon stainless (Chisai, Tetsu, Sakura, Himitsu, Ryujin): rust-resistant and easy to care for, with a keen edge for everyday prep.
- High-carbon steel (Yurei, Kotetsu): takes a very sharp edge and is easy to resharpen. It isn’t stainless, so dry it straight away and oil it lightly. It develops a natural patina over time.
- Damascus (Honshu, Shinobi, Kazeblade, Kuroblade): very hard steel that holds its edge longer, with a distinctive layered pattern.
You’ll find the exact steel grade for each knife on its product page.
Do your cleavers come with a sheath?
Some of our cleavers come with a sheath, depending on the blade and how you buy it:
- Chisai: always comes with a sheath, whether you buy it on its own or in The Essentials or The Complete Set.
- Himitsu and Ryujin: a sheath is available when you buy them on their own. Choose the “With Sheath” option on the product page. They don’t come with a sheath when bought in a bundle.
- All other blades, including the Yurei and Kotetsu, don’t come with a sheath. If a sheath appears in a product photo, it’s there for illustration only.
Are they suitable for cutting through bone?
No. Our knives are designed for meat, fish and vegetables, not bone or frozen food. Cutting bone can chip or roll the edge, so cut cleanly and avoid twisting or prying with the blade.
Why does my blade look different from the photos?
Some of our blades use natural materials and finishes that vary from piece to piece. Wood handles each have their own grain and colour. Resin handles are poured individually, so no two patterns are the same. Damascus patterns and hammered finishes also differ slightly from blade to blade. Your knife may look a little different from the photos, but these variations are part of its character and aren’t defects.
Care & Maintenance
How do I stop my knife from rusting?
Hand wash your knife and towel-dry it straight away. Never leave it wet, soaking in the sink, or in the dishwasher. If you won’t use it for a while, wipe on a light coat of camellia oil or food-grade mineral oil before storing it. Avoid cooking oils, which can turn sticky. Our stainless knives resist rust well, but even stainless steel can spot if it’s left wet.
How do I care for my specific blade?
- High-carbon stainless (Chisai, Tetsu, Sakura, Himitsu, Ryujin): the easiest to care for. Hand wash, dry and sharpen on a whetstone when needed.
- High-carbon steel (Yurei, Kotetsu): not stainless. Dry immediately, oil lightly before storing, and wipe the blade after cutting acidic foods like tomato or citrus. A darker patina will develop over time, which is normal and helps protect the steel.
- Damascus (Honshu, Shinobi, Kazeblade, Kuroblade): very hard steel that holds its edge longer but can chip. Don’t twist or pry with the blade, and use the spine, not the edge, to scrape food across the board.
For every knife, use a wood or plastic cutting board, because glass and stone dull the edge quickly.
How should I store my knife?
Store your knife in a knife block or on a magnetic strip, once it’s fully dry. If your knife came with a sheath, only put it in once the blade is completely dry, because trapped moisture can cause rust. Don’t keep knives loose in a drawer, where the edge can chip against other utensils.
Returns, Warranty & Damage
What is your return policy?
To ask about a return, email hello@takumicleavers.com with your order number. We’ll check whether your order is eligible and guide you through the next steps. Please don’t send anything back without contacting us first, because items sent without approval can’t be processed.
Approved refunds go back to your original payment method and can take 5–10 business days to appear, depending on your bank. See our Returns and Warranty policy for full details.
What if my cleaver arrives damaged or faulty?
If your order arrives damaged or faulty, or you receive the wrong item, email hello@takumicleavers.com within 7 days of delivery. Include your order number, clear photos of the item and the packaging, and a short description of the problem.
We’ll offer a replacement or a full refund, whichever you prefer. If we need the item back, we’ll cover the return shipping.
Do your cleavers come with a warranty?
Yes. Every Takumi blade is covered for 12 months from delivery against defects in materials and workmanship under normal household use, such as cracks, handle separation, or loose pins or rivets. The warranty doesn’t cover improper sharpening or modification, chips or breaks from cutting bone, frozen food or other hard items. It also doesn’t cover damage from twisting, prying, dropping, dishwasher use or leaving the blade wet, or normal wear and dulling.
To make a claim, email hello@takumicleavers.com with your order number, photos of the defect and a short description.
